Search windows files C/C++/JAVA program

I'm thinking of making a small project on extension mover, one in which first of all the user inputs a particular extension like .pdf and then my program searches all the files with that extension in my computer and then group them all in a particular folder. Can anyone give me a brief layout of the search function? So that I can search in directories using my program.
