Any good exercise based books to begin learning C++? [on hold]

I once picked up the book by ID Chivers called Introduction to Programming with FORTRAN to learn some FORTRAN. Now I have found that I need to start learning the basics of C++ and was looking around for a good book with worked examples to get me going. I mention Chivers' book as it was a book written in the juxtaposed perspective of the similarities of programming syntax with written language and I found it really helpful and engaging.

Can anyone suggest any similar books that are not mammoth tomes of endless dry chapters but rather a problem based learning book that can help get me started on learning the language of C++ programming?
